What is the Most Expensive Private Yacht in the World?
February 18, 2014Finding the most expensive private yacht in the world isn’t that hard. It cost nearly $600 million to create and was commissioned by Roman Abramovich and Chelsea Boss. This floating island not only provides every luxury known to man, but it also provides an early-warning missile detection system.
The yacht is called the M/Y Eclipse and measures over 530 feet long. This beat the previous record holder by about 11 meters, which was Sheikh Mohammad. This massive boat weighs 13,000 tons and was built in Hamburg, Germany by Blohm + Voss. The interior was designed by Terence Disdale Design, while the yacht was engineered by Francis Design.
With 24 guest cabins, all lavishly outfitted with a 6-foot movie screen, multiple hot tubs, two swimming pools and a discotheque, this is nearly a private cruise ship. The yacht employs a crew of 70 people and costs nearly $60 million to maintain yearly.
If you’re lucky enough to be invited onto the ship, you can get on by helicopter and one of the dual helipads. However, if you’re not invited, you may want to avoid trying to board the ship.
This yacht is outfitted with a long-range radar, which provides plenty of time for the crew to maneuver if an attack is underway. Along with the radar, the yacht is equipped with bullet proof windows, an anti-bugging system and a laser shield system. Not even the paparazzi can get on the Eclipse without an invitation.
