Things to do in Miami for Memorial Day 2016
May 25, 2016Do you know how you’re going to spend your Memorial Day weekend in Miami yet? This year is going to be just as great as every year with relaxation and fun available to you and your loved ones. This might be a great year to hit the beach with family fun over on Key Biscayne and for others, it’s the time to go wild enjoying the nightlife of South Beach.
Whatever you prefer, Miami has something for everyone this Memorial Day weekend. Remember those who have served for your freedom on this year’s Memorial Day and celebrate their honor in these ways in Miami.
A city-wide celebration
This year you can enjoy a Miami celebration to pay homage to those that have served the country. One option is the “Remembering Our Heroes” ceremony being hosted by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee over at Woodlawn Park Cemetery.
You’ll also be able to find wreath-laying ceremonies and 21-gun salutes hosted by the American Legion Miami Beach Post 85 and VFW Miami Beach Post 3559. Check out Coral Gables, North Miami Beach, Surfside, and Hialeah for more ceremonies celebrating American service men and women.
Enjoy some comedy
When you’re ready for the 3-day weekend away from work and regular daily obligations, it might be a good weekend to get some good laughs in. Check out Downtown Miami’s Comedy Festival at the James L. Knight Center. This 9th Annual Memorial Weekend Comedy Festival will take place on the 29th at 8pm featuring big names like Steven Brown, Lil Duval, and John Witherspoon. You can join in on the fun for $27 on Ticketmaster.
Get in touch with nature
This may be a great year to get back in touch with nature over Memorial Day. Use this weekend to try an eco-tour with the family. This three-day weekend, get outdoorsy with a state park visit in Miami. Try a visit to Oleta River State Park where you can try a guided kayak tour to see manatees. Try paddle-boarding and bike trails tool. Guided tours are around $35 per person with $6 per vehicle at the park.
Hit the Beach
This may be the perfect weekend to spend with your family at the beach. Most people are going to hit Miami Beach if they want to party but Key Biscayne is going to be your laid-back, family-friendly destination. Spend the weekend surfing, laying on the beach, and enjoying the views. Stop by Crandon Park Beach and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park for some family time. You’ll definitely want to bring shoes to climb the Cape Florida Lighthouse from 1825.
Dance it out
If you are ready to party this Memorial Day, you can’t go wrong hitting up South Beach for the nightlife. LIV is hosting the Sunset Music Festival on the 28th and 29th at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach where you can see Hardwell, JackU, and Galantis. Try an All White Yacht Party with Miami Nice or go to hotel parties at the Art Deco District in South Beach where you can party at spots like Breakwater.
