About Venetian Islands

The Venetian Islands are a series of man-made islands located between Miami Beach and the Miami mainland that are made up of six islands; Belle Isle, Rivo Alto, Di Lido Island, San Marco Island, San Marino Island and Biscayne Island all connected by a series of bridges. Biscayne Island, the westernmost artificial island was once used as an airport but today is home to high-end apartment buildings, an upscale residential neighborhood and the private toll plaza entry onto the Venetian Islands. Belle Isle, the easternmost isle is the only island that is not entirely artificial.  It was originally a mangrove hammock island, but as Carl G. Fisher and fruit farmer John S. Collins began developing luxury properties in Miami Beach, the sand that was dredged for construction was deposited by the mangroves.  A small bridge connecting Belle Isle to Miami Beach was built, and today it is home to luxury condo buildings, a newly developed rental complex, the Standard Hotel and a beautiful city park at the center of it all where residents can go for a stroll, children play at the kiddie park, neighbors meet at the dog park and open green spaces where kids play soccer and adults enjoy their outdoor yoga.

The residential properties on the islands are found on dry lots as well as on the waterfront, offering some of the most spectacular views of the city.  Many of these properties are highly sought for their privacy, spectacular views and convenient location to Sunset Harbour plaza, the Design District and Downtown Miami.  Most residents ditch their car for a Vespa or a scooter. It is easy to get around the vicinity without a car via the Miami Beach courtesy trollies, city bikes and Freebie golf cart rides.  A freshly green, painted bike path down the entire 3.5 mile corridor welcomes both joggers and cyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts. A separate sidewalk down the same path allows pedestrians their own space as they enjoy an evening stroll.  It is not unusual to spot a dolphin playing in the warm waters of Biscayne Bay. Come and take a look for yourself.
